New course: Further Introductions to Birdwatching - Winter Birds

Little Egret (Neil G. Morris)
Little Egret (Neil G. Morris)

Once more in conjunction with the Manx Ornithological Society and led by the veritable Tim Earl, we’re delighted to bring you this new series. Designed to improve your ability to find and identify the island's birds and to enhance your enjoyment of birdwatching, the mix of indoor and outdoor classes is aimed at beginners and those with limited experience.

You’ll be able to learn the basics of how best to find and observe birds in winter, get hints and tips on how to recognize the main groups of birds and get recommendations on which equipment and books to use. Throughout the course you’ll be in the company of like-minded people with whom you’ll be able to share your interest and develop your knowledge further.

Starting on 15th November, the course comprises three evening classroom-based sessions (7.00-9.00pm approx.) and three morning outdoor sessions at Manx hot spots for birdwatching (though please note that field trips are subject to weather conditions so some flexibility is required):

  • Thu 15th November 7.00pm evening class, St. Andrew's Church (nr. St. Ninian's traffic lights), Douglas
  • Sun 18th November 7.00am field trip – time and location to be decided with the group
  • Thu 22nd November 7.00pm evening class, St. Andrew's Church (nr. St. Ninian's traffic lights), Douglas
  • Sun 25th November 7.00am field trip – time and location to be decided with the group
  • Thu 29th November 7.00pm evening class, St. Andrew's Church (nr. St. Ninian's traffic lights), Douglas
