The table below shows the earliest and latest dates reported in the Manx Bird Reports published in Peregrine for 2000 – 2008. The list doesn’t include every summer visitor, while some of the species listed (such as Chiffchaff) may have some individuals that remain on the Isle of Man during the winter.
For many species there is an obvious spring migration, as birds return from their winter quarters; many of the individuals pass through the Isle of Man on their way to their breeding grounds. Then there is an autumn migration as they head south again after breeding. In some cases there are fewer reports of birds in the autumn, possibly because of birds not been seen or because of lack of reports by observers. When only one sighting is made in a year, the same details are shown in the ‘first’ and ‘last’ columns.
