It’s nearly that time of year again — the Isle of Man Christmas Bird Race is approaching fast!
It is, of course, the perfect excuse to get outside, enjoy the festive season, and connect with nature (not that you will need an excuse).
Last year was our best ever, with a record-breaking 125 species spotted including some first-time Bird Race sightings like Ring-necked Duck, Slavonian Grebe, Avocet, Med Gull and Red Kite. What surprises will this year bring?
The rules of the race are simple:
• Spend as little or as much time as you like birdwatching anywhere on or around the Island (including Manx territorial waters).
• All sightings must be made between Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve (00:01 on 25 Dec – 23:59 on 31 Dec).
• It’s not a competition! The aim is for everyone collectively to see as many species as possible.

You can log your sightings on our website vis the link below, or share them on Facebook or Twitter using #ManxBirdRace.

You can also use the downloadable recording card to keep track of what you have seen and when.
Keep an eye on our social media over the festive period. We’ll be sharing daily updates on what has been seen, and more importantly, what has yet to be seen!
Please remember that the Bird Race is all about enjoying nature. We ask that you use common sense, respect wildlife, and never enter private land without permission. Stay safe, have fun, and happy birdwatching!
