Manx BirdLife and the Manx Ornithological Society work together on many private and public events throughout the year for Friends, Members and supporters as well as open events for the public.

All MOS events are weather dependant. If in doubt, please check with Janet Thompson (07624 428953) before setting out.

An indoor evening presentation by Liz Charter and Tim Earl entitled Rainforest Birds, wildlife and a huge waterfall in Guyana, at Union Mills Methodist Chapel. Tea, coffee and biscuits from 7.00pm. Presentation starts at 7.30pm.

Further Steps in Birdwatching - An intermediate level course looking at migration of birds, why some migrate, how migration is fuelled, strategies for navigation – with an in-depth investigation of wildfowl (ducks, geese and swans). Click here for full details.

Open to all: An Introduction to Summer Birdwatching (Beginners level course). We’ll show you the basics of how to best observe birds, share hints and tips on how to recognize the main groups of birds and give you recommendations on which equipment and books to use. Throughout the course you’ll get to know like-minded people with whom you’ll be able to share your interest and develop your knowledge further. Click here for full details.

Open to all: Intermediate Birdwatching: Warblers. Going beyond the basics of birdwatching, this intermediate level course is aimed at those with some birding experience, including past students of the Introduction to Birdwatching course. It will include an assignment in which students will be asked to research and observe a chosen species in some detail. Modules will include why birds return, song and the dawn chorus, alarm calls and an in-depth study of Manx warblers, swallows and martins. Click here for full details.
